25:00 5k time. What quote best describes you? Please explain how and why
This essay is for one of my reach schools and my deadline is soon but i’ve been staring at a blank word document for days now.
To this point my favorite quote that i’ve chose is “A man must be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them”. My general idea for the essay was to write it on how I live my life in the absence of regret. I was planning on writing it on how I’ve taken many chances in my life, and both in success and failure I’ve used everything as a learning experience to make me who I am today, a young devoted student determined to find success in my future. I really want the college to see how I’ve developed an incredible ability to adapt to any situation due to the variety of setbacks I’ve overcome in my upbringing, which will help me adapt to their campus and aid me on my path to success.
Some examples of success in my life are..
Joining the cross country team freshman year with a 25:00 5k time, and through hard work everyday getting my 5k time down to 19:00 and earning my varsity letter at the end of my freshman season.
Helping my mom reach her goal of raising 5000 dollars for the march of dimes for premature babies by hosting an assembly and getting my school involved and donating to the cause.
Some examples of failure/struggle in my life that i’ve overcome are..
Tearing my meniscus in my knee during the first game of my sophomore lacrosse season, and having to sit the whole season. Then having problems flare up again before my junior season and not being able to play again. Since then I’ve used it as motivation and have been regularly training and I’m in the best shape of my life ready to dominate my senior season.
After the dead of my grandfather, I fell into a rut in which most things in my life felt worthless. It was a rough time in my life, as he died in under two weeks from his diagnoses from an incredibly aggressive form of cancer. I took this and used it to re-motivate myself, and i told myself that all the hard work in my future and any success I find as a result of it would be dedicated to my grandpa, my biggest believer and fan.
Moving around very frequently early in my life, I used to have a very rough time getting used to new surroundings. In each new town it would take a considerable amount of time to meet new people and feel less shy when in school. Over time, this process has made me into a very social and outgoing person. I now am a very extroverted person with a loud and friendly personality. It takes me very little time to meet a diverse new friend group, and adapt to my surroundings to begin to thrive.
